Why Maximum Impact Golf?

The terminology comes from 50+ years as a player and 35+ years as an instructor.  Let’s think about it.  Does any other part of your golf swing really matter?  Does the ball get any information from your grip, posture, backswing or what you're trying to do?  It only responds to the clubface at the moment of truth – IMPACT.

If you look at the World Golf Rankings at any point in time, you’ll find some really different looking swing techniques amongst the top players in the world.  Jordan Spieth and Jim Furyk are both experts in the same activity – golf; but it’s hard to tell from their golf swings.  And speaking of funky different golf swings, other players near the top of the rankings include Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia & Dustin Johnson.  It’s hard to believe they are all experts at the same activity.  There is a simple answer to this dilemma, they are all in virtually the same position at impact and the rest is what one of my mentors, Claude Harmon called “Window Dressing”.

Most traditional golf swing instruction starts with the backswing.  Think about it, that’s like starting a trip before you select a destination.  Impact is the destination and all that matters so let’s start there.  The trip makes a lot more sense once you identify the destination.   Join me!
